As part of the event series "Welcome. Postdocs at LUH"
A stay abroad during the doctorate or postdoc phase has become increasingly important and mobility a must in academia. The first period as a postdoc directly after completing a doctorate is particularly suited to this, since postdocs in the early postdoc phase can work on their own research projects abroad, establish their own name in a new research field and make valuable contacts outside the doctoral environment. Finally, the stay abroad can also make sense as a strategic step, which may be followed by exciting prospects abroad or a junior research group leadership, junior professorship and the like in Germany.
In view of these advantages, however, many questions arise, such as how to organize such a stay abroad, what steps need to be taken and what should (ideally) already be tackled during the doctorate? Does it make more sense to go abroad with a job or a scholarship? In addition, how do you find a suitable position at a foreign research institution?
To answer these questions and to share his own experiences, Dr. Jonas Junker will join the event via a video-call. Jonas completed his doctorate at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics at Leibniz University before working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Australian National University for a year. Since January 2025, he has been working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Technical University of Denmark. The event takes place at the Welcome Centre of the International Office (Building 1106), Welfengarten 1A, 30167 Hannover. It is also possible to join the event online via our Webex-Link.
