10 am-4 pm each day
This workshop aims to provide an overview of the form, structure, and reporting standards for different types of research papers, with a focus on writing for publication in peer-reviewed journals in a range of fields. After the illustration of each section of a research paper along with the ethical issues and references, I will also provide a summary of the distinct conceptions to be made by authors selecting the right journals in which to publish their paper, and offer suggestions as to balancing these competing factors. As the specific requirements for structure and content can vary quite significantly from discipline to discipline – as well as from journal to journal. In this regard, we will look at a range of writing skills to practice and develop your writing techniques – techniques that help ensure clarity, conciseness and coherence as well.
During the workshop, we will see some examples of creating the particular sections of scientific text via ChatGPT. We will incorporate an interactive methodology that applies a range of activities and feedback. We will first deal with sentence-level activities that look at how to improve typical problems that make the reader’s job difficult then go through conciseness, coherence as well as the relevant sections of the research paper. The workshop handout provides a comprehensive overview of the principles and techniques that contribute to good scientific writing.
In brief, in this seminar, you will refine techniques for writing well- structured journal-style texts that meet the publication standards.
